Do You Have Room?

Posted at 08:03 PM on November 01, 2009

This is a simple question.  Do you have room?  As you look around your life, at your accumulation of things, do you have room for something new?  As you check your schedule and mark your to-do lists, do you have room for a change of pace?

We have to leave room in our lives for the Spirit of God to intervene and change things around.  As I read the Bible, I find that the people God used were busy, but not to the point that they had no room in their lives for God's plan.

Moses was tending his father-in-law's flocks; David was tending his father's flocks; most of the disciples were occupied as fishermen; one of them was a tax collector.  But all of them had something in common - they had room in their lives, in their hearts, for God to make a move!

God promised in Isaiah that he would do some new things in the earth.  Isaiah chapter 43, verse 19, says, Behold, I will do a new thing; now it shall spring forth; shall ye not know it? I will even make a way in the wilderness, [and] rivers in the desert.

It occurred to me that there is plenty of room in the wilderness - that makes it a perfect place for God to work.  So if you feel like you are in a wilderness state, praise God!  You have room for the Holy Spirit to make a way.  And if your life is dry and desolate like the desert, take courage!  The one thing that you have is plenty of room for a river.  And the Lord is more than able to make rivers of living water flow through you.  John chapter 7, verse 38, confirms it:  He that believeth on me, as the scripture hath said, out of his belly shall flow rivers of living water.

These are the words of our Lord Jesus Christ.

So I ask you again:  DO YOU HAVE ROOM?  There is a new creature in you that is striving to get out.  2 Corinthians 5:17 puts it this way:  Therefore if any man [be] in Christ, [he is] a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.

He is willing to give you even more than you have room for, but you must make room in your heart, your life, your schedule, for something from the Lord.  Are you ready to receive something new?  If not, make room by getting rid of something old.  Increase is available, your storehouse can be filled with fresh oil and new wine, but first you must MAKE ROOM!
